  1. I also watched that show. I felt the adult side barked a wrong tree. The student side comprise young people in the age range of 18 to 20 of UG and PG only. They come from TN colleges. Maybe, Chennai city too. They have been, as you said, made consistently to believe that the purpose of education is to end in a job: more lucrative the better; or at least, a salaried job. To expect them to think otherwise is, what I called, barking a wrong tree.

Such is the calibre of TN students even if they are from city college: to obey speechlessly and to accept what is the target. Beyond that, they can go; but they wont for fear of offending the general expectation from all around.

At the same time, take the students of Delhi University. You get a different kettle of fish. It is they who launched a raucous demonstrations, strong and fearsome, in front of Lady Sriram College - a Hindutva backed college in Delhi - where Modi came to speak to students. It is they who first launched the agitation gainst Mandal Commission. It is they who originated the fight for justice in the case of bus rape of Ms Joshi; it is they who fought for Jessica Lal and so on and so forth.

If a group of Delhi University students, esp. from JNU, and they are of the same age range as the one who sat yesterday, the adult side and the anchor Gopinath would have had a harrowing experience of facing views they would never forget in life. The mistake is not with the students who appeared yday; but with the Tamil society from which they came out!

You must have worthy foe in a food fight. Yday program was one sided.
